Lead Data Engineer

Are you our new Lead Data Engineer? 

You have developed a strong skill set regarding data engineering practices. And you have reached a certain point in your career where you would like to use your knowledge, not only for helping customers but also for guiding and leading project teams. You would like to deliver an essential contribution to professionalizing the data engineering track within Bright Cape. And you are able to create a vision and translate it into action.

How will you help businesses use their data for good?  

Within our multidisciplinary teams, you will guide projects and constantly work on optimizing processes by means of the latest data applications and techniques. In this way, you create value for both our customers and our internal products.

You are responsible for 

  • Offering guidance and participating in the execution of projects on (key) customer accounts;
  • Translating client requirements into data platform solutions (most likely cloud- based);
  • Taking the lead of the data engineering team and support across other disciplines;
  • Creating and orchestrating reusable and scalable data pipelines including data quality checks;
  • Monitoring of the data pipelines (e.g., log analytics);
  • Setting standards for data engineering practices and preserving high-quality code.

You have 

  • +/- 7 years of experience in the Data Engineering field; 
  • Experience in setting up and optimizing data pipelines and architectures in the cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP), where experience with Azure is preferred; 
  • An architectural mindset and a solid foundation in data engineering practices; knowledge of data engineering best practices and how to set up a data engineering architecture (in a cloud environment); 
  • Programming experience in one or more scripting/programming languages such as Python, SQL & Pyspark; 
  • Completed a relevant technical academic degree, for example Computer Science, Informatics, Mathematics, Econometrics, or a related field; 
  • Having a vision you would like to share and a commercial attitude. 
  • Experience with deployment and working in a DevOps environment: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Azure DevOps; 
  • Experienced in working with Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Synapse or Apache Spark 
  • Experience of data manipulation and transformation with querying languages such as SQL; 
  • You speak and write Dutch & English on a professional level.  

 It is a bonus: 

  • If you are a certified Azure Cloud Architect;
  • Experience in setting up both SQL and NoSQL databases; 
  • Experience in setting up custom data connections;
  • Experience with workflow management tools such as Airflow, MLFlow and Luigi.
